When the great fire swept the city after the 1906 earthquake, homes were put to the torch on Van Ness Avenue to cre- Victorian San Francisco at its Finest ate a firebreak, and the Inn survived. "MONTE CRISTO' was the original name of this charming turn-of-the-century bordello saloon turned Bed and Breakfast Inn. Not a mansion turned bed and breakfast. With most hotels destroyed in the fire of 1906, Monte Cristo is perhaps the oldest original hospitality structure in San Francisco.
